Leopard Seal (Hydrurga leptonyx) & Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua)
Jougla Point, Wiencke Island, Antarctica
Leopard seals are formidable inhabitants of Antarctic waters. They predate in particular on penguins and subject them to a slow, unpleasant demise which can last up to half an hour or more. They eventually manage to remove the entire skin before devouring what remains. Not enjoyable to watch, but shows survival in this harsh, unforgiving environment.
