This poem was written as a school assignment by an eight year old boy named Samuel Cull-Lapaire about Igor, a magnificent bull elephant killed by poachers in 2009.

Samuel's mother sent the poem to renowned wildlife photographer Nick Brandt who had photographed Igor, to let him know just how much his photo and story of Igor had touched her son. Nick responded right away and both Samuel and his mother were invited to London where Nick was holding an exhibition.

Samuel lives in Cambridge, England of British, Brazilian and French descent. He uses part of his pocket money to support the WWF, likes polar bears, climbing trees and wants to be just like Bear Grylis. What an incredible young man and inspiration to us all!

My mum taught me
Where water is

So he could one day teach his

But bad men saw only money
