Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae)
Paradise Bay, Antarctica
I took this image from an elevated rocky area overlooking Paradise Bay. The water was like glass as a pair of humpback whales passed by. The zodiacs remained at a respectful distance, so the whales could go about their natural behavior. I think the image conveys the scale and remoteness of the area we were in and I always remember the silence broken every now and then by the sounds of the whales exhaling through their blowholes. Paradise indeed!
